The painting "In the Artist's Studio" was painted in 1881 by the painter Konstantin Makovsky. Now she is in Moscow in the Tretyakov Gallery.

The legacy of Konstantin Egorovich Makovsky is so great that the list of his achievements even includes a portrait of Theodore Roosevelt, which was directly ordered by the American government. True, few people know him in Russia, since his paintings are almost not in galleries. The thing is that his work was too expensive for even the richest domestic collectors of that time, so they quickly “left” abroad. In this regard, Makovsky was declared a "harmful" artist. “In the artist’s workshop” is one of the few paintings of the creator, which is located in the Tretyakov Gallery.

The painting shows the little son of the artist, who is going to get a sweet apple. That is why the second name of the canvas is “Little Thief”.

The picture is saturated with children's naivety and bright feelings. The little boy still cannot enjoy a real Flemish-style still life, so he, in a white nightie slipping off his shoulder, is trying to slightly break the idyll.

Oddly enough, initially, the artist planned to draw a still life. This can be seen from the fabric on which the child became: it was prepared by Makovsky specifically to create the background.

As for the original name of the picture, it is fully true, because the storyline developed precisely in the workshop of Konstantin Egorovich. Velvet, glare, antique weapons and vases give the interior color to the canvas.
